A finish

Spring has FINALLY spring. I am very very very happy that it is getting warm. It means I can get my daily dose of vitamin D. I've been super busy and forgot to put this lovely quilt up last week. This is another finish by the Believe circle of do. Good Stitches on its way to a new home. 

The colors are very appropriate for the season! Now I have to work sew and then go by a broom for all the pollen on my porch. I really want to be out there, but the inches of yellow are deterring me. Hope everyone else is enjoying the warm sun!

a Quick One

do. Good Stitches kicked 2013 off right in the Believe circle! I had the pleasure of leading January. Here are the blocks sent in by the lovely Believe ladies.

This week I will be piecing and quilting to hopefully mail it out this weekend or in the beginning of next week. Right now, they are just randomly stuck up on my design wall...some even in the wrong direction I noticed. Haha! We used this tutorial from Holly of Bijou Lovely. I think they turned out great!

February brought on some more Japanese x and plus blocks!

I used my tutorial which results in 13 inch blocks including seam allowance (12.5 sewn together) rather than the standard 8 inch. We were asked to be scrappy but keep the triangles neutral. I can't wait to see how it turns out!

I am working on a super fun, semi secret project for a friend. Hopefully I will get to share pictures soon. I looooove to get to sew for other people and this present is no exception!

in under the wire

Phew! Finally wrapped up my long over due do. Good Stitches quilt. I am the quilter again this month and needed to get my first quilt done so that I could be on track to get this new quilt in on time. Here is my first quilt as a quilter in the Believe circle of do. Good Stitches.

I am so excited for it to find its way into the hands of a sweet little boy. My favorite part is the binding. I had no idea what to use and then after accidentally tossing this fabric onto the waiting quilt, I knew it would be perfect. It is a great pop of color that is nowhere in the quilt! But I think it works rather well. Time to trim any strings and package it up so I can send it on its way!

Attention swappers! Packages are in the mail as of yesterday! You should be receiving your fabric in the near future. Hopefully everyone will enjoy what they got! Thank you to everyone who sent in fabric for the swap. I enjoyed hosting and will definitely be doing another one!!

Because my work schedule is so intense, my mom had the immense pleasure of taking these to the post office. She said that she received many mean glares walking in with the two laundry baskets full. Haha.  Fortunately for everyone, they were already addressed and had postage!

In other news, do. Good Stitches is having a year end bash. If you don't already know, do. Good Stitches is a charity bee comprised of 21 circles of women sewing for a cause. Rachel from Stitched in Color is the founder and Queen Bee. 

On her blog, voting has begun for the 'Best of 2012' quilt. Hop over and vote! The quilt chosen to represent the Believe circle (our circle) is super gorgeous and definitely worth seeing! And, if you completed a quilt for do. Good Stitches this year, you can enter to win a roll of batting!

I was surprised today to find out that I had been chosen randomly from our Believe circle as the winner of a gift certificate from Pink Chalk Fabrics! I was so excited! I have never won anything before! Again, hop on over to Rachel's blog or do. Good Stitches and see what it is all about!

More Blocks

The holidays don't have the brightest sewing outlook for me. I will spend most of this month and next and possibly January in a hotel...ssooooo sewing is becoming a challenge. It will happen, but it will be intermittent. Luckily for me, my bees are either finishing, or taking a break for December. I am so excited for the ability to catch up. Here are a few more blocks that I finished and mailed off, but haven't had time to post about.

The deadline for submitting your fabric for the ColorWheel Swap has come and gone. Hopefully everyone's fabric is in the mail. If not, I will be sending out emails to my alternates over the Thanksgiving holiday. Hopefully they will have a fantastic turn around time and I will be able to send everyone's fabric to them during the first week of December.

This swap has been so fun and I absolutely will be doing another one! I am so thankful to everyone who participated and hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have. Thanks again!

what a Weekend!

This will be short and sweet, but I am moving a mile a minute. I am in columbia, again, meaning no sewing until friday. But! I finished all my bee blocks for October and November already. For all those who are expecting these blocks, they will be in the mail on Friday. I promise. That will be the first time I am not up to my elbows in dirt. Here are a couple of said blocks. These are for do. Good Stitches October. 

On another note, I had the most amazing weekend ever. I am not the most technologically up to date person, but this weekend, my boyfriend surprised me with an iPhone!!!! This is super exciting for me....mostly because I have an iPhone. Haha. I am setting up an Instagram account so that people can follow me and see what I am doing when I am pulled away from my blog and sewing. I can't wait to get started! Hopefully tomorrow the link will be up on my social media tool bar. Keep a lookout!

an Unexpected blogging vacation

Blog? What blog? That's how I have felt lately. With no free time to sew, I certainly have not had any time to blog. Luckily, my life has calmed down. In a nutshell, I got a big opportunity at work that was rather consuming and required me to be in the field a ton. I also unexpectedly switched apartments, so I have completely packed an unpacked everything I own. My best friend is getting married in November, and somehow her wedding is consuming parts of my life. My boyfriend is on a very inflexible schedule as a probationary firefighter, so I take any time I can get to go see him. Hmm and that's really it. It doesn't sound as hectic and consuming as it has been, but I promise it was. This is the first weekend I have had to myself in over 2 months.

I woke up today with the intention to sew, and I have done just that. Everything is finally put away in the new apartment, and I have been sewing merrily. I haven't even gotten out of my pajamas yet. I have what feels like a MILLION wips so I have set myself a goal (as everyone does) of finishing them all before I start something new. How long should we bet this will last? Haha.

I got the top together this morning and will hopefully quilt it and send it off in the next few weeks. It's so wonderful to think that this quilt could be in the arms of some sweet little boy in the near future.
